Piano Recital: May 5, 2012, Bailey and Cody

Both Bailey and Cody performed in a piano recital yesterday. We could not possibly be more proud of both the boys. Simply terrific. They are getting a first rate music education and training at Musical Expressions in Naperville, IL.

Here is Cody's piece: "Old Time Piano Rag" composed by Jane & James Bastien.

Here is Bailey's performance: Sonatina in G by Beethoven, the 1st and 2nd movements.

Easter: April 8, 2012

We've had a very unusually warm spring this year. Our pear trees have bloomed out already and are currently in full leaf mode. This is about a month earlier than usual.

Our crabapple trees are in full bloom now. Since today is Easter, and since the kids were already dressed up for Easter service, we decided to grab some pictures of them in front of one of the crabapple trees in the backyard.

Some pictures are good, some are silly, and a couple are of our only remaining hound, Jill.

Enjoy, and Happy Easter!

Christmas, 2011 Piano Recital

I admit that I'm late getting this posted, it being the day after Christmas and all. But still.

The two boys played in a piano recital earlier this month. The bothed played wonderfully and looked terrific, dressed in shirts, ties, and dress slacks.

The location was fabulous, too: a small local church, part of North Central College in Naperville, IL. The church has been re-purposed to general college use, but for this recital I was able to slip into the balcony to take this video, which was pretty cool.

Immediately below is Cody's pieces - he played a duet with his teacher:

Bailey played this piece:

Before the recital, all the students posted for pictures:

Award Winning Home Cook Cody

Behold our own award-winning home-cook Cody, who brought home an Honorable Mention for Hottest Chili in the first ever Faith Lutheran Church Chili Cookoff last night.

He's very happy and we're all quite proud of him.

Jillian The English Coonhound (aka Redtick Coonhound)

She is the newest member of our little family. Her name is Jillian and she's a hound, through and through. We love hounds, and with pack dogs, it is often better to have more than one. When our South The Dog passed away, we knew eventually we'd get a new one. Now we have Jillian.

Cody adores her, wants her to be "his dog." I explained that Jillian will decide whose dog she will be. He'll have to work hard to make her his own. He promised to do that.

The 1st Annual Needham Family Open

We played golf as a foursome yesterday, the first time we've all played together and Cody's first time on a real course for nine holes. This was the first of what we hope will become many rounds together, reminiscent of Carolyn's family's Hardy Open.

South The Dog

Our nearly-14-year-old beagle, South, was a fine, fine dog. Last night we had to say goodbye to her.

A family pet, like South and like her brother North, counts on its human companions for many things: food and water, exercise, medicine and medical treatment when necessary, love and affection at all times, kind treatment. At the end of their days, family pets rely on their human companions to do what is right and best for the dog. Though it broke our heart, last night we did what we had to for our South.

Before we took her, we all had a chance to say goodbye, though, and we took a few final pictures.

Cody's Newly Sprained Wrist and Elbow

Cody tripped and and fell and sprained his left wrist and elbow yesterday evening. After a trip to the emergency room for X-Rays (negative, thankfully), he's got the arm wrapped in an ace bandage and a sling.

This did not stop him from going to his first day at Brookfield Zoo Summer Camp, though. He's a trooper, and his brother promised to help him out at camp.

April and May, 2011: The Months That Were

April and May were exciting months around here, but we did not get to post about them, since we were all *so sick* of the old family website format that we could not take it any more. So we started planning on a migration to a new server and service and finally completed that. So, working backwards, here is what we've been up to.

On May 29th, we launched the new version of The Needham Family Website.

On May 15th, we were in Memphis for a charity golf event.

On April 30th, we celebrated Cody's 9th birthday.

April 28th was Revolutionary War Night at Bailey's school.
